Wildland/Fuels Reduction Crew Member $12-$13.50 per hour Primary Duties - Work as a member of a wildland firefighting crew.
- Work as an essential member of a fuels reduction crew.
- Independently engage in labor-intensive, physically demanding, manual work. Work involves lifting, bending, and carrying heavy loads on uneven terrain.
- Use power and specialized hand tools to reduce, remove and modify vegetation.
- Assume responsibility, care, maintenance, and security of district facilities, tools and equipment.
- Display good judgment and safe work practices; correct unsafe work procedures.
- Operate district vehicles.
- Respond to emergency situations both in and out of the District
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications - High School Graduate or GED
- 18 years of age
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to work safely and cooperatively in a group setting and work within a variety of working conditions.
- Ability to perform manual labor in rough terrain, lift heavy loads, and work for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
- No felony convictions
Desirable Qualifications - Excellent customer service skills.
- Good organization skills.
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fuels reduction.
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance procedures for chippers, chainsaws and hand tools.
- Healthcare Provider CPR (or equivalent), First Aid or EMT
- Completion of S-110, S-130, S-190, or equivalency (Basic 32), S-212. Class A or B Faller.
Term of Employment This is a seasonal position. The term of employment begin May 11, 2010. If possible, schedule accommodations may be made for employees attending schools of higher education. Notice: TDFPD does not provide housing. Once offered employment, candidates must pass a background exam, pre-employment health screening, and physical ability test. Employees in this position are subject to pre-employment and random drug and/or alcohol testing.
